2025-2026 Paraprofessional to the Assistive Technology Specialist

Job Summary

The District-Wide Assistive Technology (AT) Paraprofessional supports the implementation and integration of assistive technology tools and services for students with disabilities across the district. Working under the supervision of the Assistive Technology Specialist and in collaboration with special education teams, this role assists in the setup, maintenance, and daily use of AT devices and software. The paraprofessional plays a vital role in ensuring that students receive access to appropriate tools that support communication, learning, and independence in educational settings.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation, distribution, setup, and organization of assistive technology tools (e.g., communication devices, adaptive equipment, screen readers, tablets).
  • Support students during classroom activities using AT devices, ensuring proper use and functionality.
  • Provide on‑site technical assistance and troubleshooting for AT equipment and software.
  • Maintain inventory, track usage, and manage the distribution of assistive technology materials and devices across school sites.
  • Document usage and performance of assistive technology tools; gather data as needed for IEP teams.
  • Collaborate with special education staff, related service providers, and IT personnel to ensure students' needs are met.
  • Assist with staff training sessions by preparing materials, setting up equipment, and demonstrating basic device functions.
  • Provide in‑class support to students as directed, ensuring appropriate use of assistive technology throughout the instructional day.
  • Travel to multiple school sites across the district to provide support.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Delaware Paraprofessional Certification using one of the three options:
    • High School Diploma and passing Paraprofessional Assessment
    • Completed at least 2 years of study at an institution of higher learning and accumulating at least 60 credits
    • Obtain an Associates Degree or higher
Qualifications

Required:

  • Experience working with students with disabilities in an educational setting
  • Basic proficiency with technology, including tablets, laptops, and educational software
  • Ability to learn and apply new technologies and software tools quickly
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Willingness to travel to various schools throughout the district

Preferred:

  • Prior experience with assistive technology tools (e.g., AAC devices, screen readers, alternative keyboards)
  • Familiarity with IEP processes and documentation
  • Experience supporting students with physical, sensory, or communication needs
Working Conditions
  • Duties performed in classroom environments, therapy spaces, and office settings
  • Must be able to lift and transport equipment (up to 25 pounds)
  • Regular travel between district school buildings required
